About The Stampede
Our annual 5K/10K Race, 5K Wheelchair Race, and 5K Walk are hosted by the Buffalo Grove Friends of the Parks Foundation, in partnership with the Buffalo Grove Park District. The race begins and ends at the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center.

Friday, August 31 from 6 - 9 pm and Sunday, September 2 from 6:30 - 8 am at the Buffalo Grove Park District Community Arts Center, located at 225 McHenry Road in Buffalo Grove.

Pre-register online 3 or more family members and receive $3 off each registration. No other discounts apply if using the family discount. Family members do not have to be registered for the same race in order to receive the discount.
Discounts are also available to CARA members and Buffalo Grove Fitness Center members when pre-registering online as an individual. Only one discount may be applied to each participant.
Day Of Registration
After online pre-registration closes at 5pm on Wednesday, August 29, all discounts will expire, and registration must be completed in-person at bib pick-up, or the registration tent at the race. Day Of Registration closes 15 minutes prior to the start of each race.
The 5k and 10K course travel along residential streets, sidewalks and praved paths. Some, but not all streets will be closed to vehicle traffic. About half of the 10K course travels through 3-dimensional forest preserve along a gravel path.
Timers & Clocks
Each bib will be fitted with a Chronotrack B-Tag with corresponding number. B-Tags are one-time use, and will not be collected at the finish line. A tent will be present on the midway for runners to get their results directly from the timing company. There will be synchronized clocks at each mile marker throughout the race.
*A minimum of 10 pre-registerations are needed in order for wheelchair event to be held.
Police and volunteer marshals will staff intersections and direct traffic; but, the course will not be completely closed to traffic.
For safety reasons, strollers, pets, roller blades, skateboards and bicycles of any kind will not be allowed in the 5K and 10K runs, or the 5K walk.
The 5k course is flat through a residential neighborhood. There will be water stations just past the 1 mile and 2 mile marks.
The 10k course is 3-dimensional and over 60% is on crushed stone pathways. Water stations are located near the 2 and 3 mile marks and just past the 4 and 5 mile marks.
5K run and 10K run are both separated by Male and Female within the below age brackets. 5K walk does not have age or gender groupings.

If you are registering the day of the race, please be on time. Day of race registration ends promptly at 7:15 am for the 10K and 8 am for the 5K.

Bib Pick-Up includes numbered bib with corresponding b-tag, race shirt and course map. Race shirt sizes are first come first served.
Race Belongings/Bag Check
A bag check for the runners will be available
Cash Prizes will be given to the overall male and female winners in the 5K and 10K races and they will not be eligible for age group prizes. Cash prizes will also be given to the 1st place winners of each race category for the 5K and 10K races. Medals will be given to the top 3 finishers in each race category for the 5K and 10K races. No awards are given out for the 5K walk.
All participants will be entered into the general prize drawing with prizes valued up to $50.
Parking will be available at the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center, located at 601 W Deerfield Parkway in Buffalo Grove. You must access the parking lot from McHenry Rd. (Rt. 83). Access from Deerfield Parkway will be closed due to the location of the start and finish lines. Overflow parking is available at Mike Rylko Community Park on Buffalo Grove Road, just north of McHenry Road.
Note: There may be contradicting signage due to Buffalo Grove Days Festival next door to the race; however, lanes will be open for Stampede parking access from McHenry Road.
You can view the results on Active.com and MyChicagoAthlete.com. They will be posted on Sunday shortly after the race is complete. After the race, you may also bring your bib number to the timer’s tent, and have a receipt with your time printed for you.
